Opservatorij Hvar je osnovan 1972. godine i smješten je na 230 metara nadmorske visine iznad grada Hvara, gdje su postavljeni dvostruki sunčev teleskop i 65cm teleskop za opažanje zvijezda. U okviru bilateralne suradnje Republike Austrije i Republike Hrvatske 1997. godine izgrađen je 1m Austrijsko-hrvatski teleskop. Jedna od glavnih djelatnosti Opservatorija je istraživačka djelatnost što se lako može zaključiti po golemom broju znanstvenih radova koji se broje u stotinama. Opservatorijem upravlja Geodetski fakultet iz Zagreba sa kojim je uspostavljena suradnja na istraživačkim i edukativnim elementima programa.

The Hvar Observatory was founded in 1972 and is located 230 meters above sea level above the town of Hvar, where a double solar telescope and a 65 cm telescope for observing the night sky have been installed. As part of the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Croatia, a 1 m Austrian-Croatian telescope was built in 1997. One of the main activities of the Observatory is research, which can be easily concluded from the huge number of scientific papers, their number in the hundreds. The observatory is under management of Geodesic Faculty in Zagreb, where collaboration on research and educational project has been established.
