Donaufestival 2016

Donaufestival 2016

redifining arts

In 2016 donaufestival once again presents a programme beyond all genre borders, between new art forms and pop culture, between underground and radical sociopolitical motives, between performance and music.

„donaufestival 2016 is conceived as a manifesto of the abnormal, the other, the post-colonial view of a world of horror. But the statements of our artists are also an expression of hope and utopia, an appeal for a new mode of thought, action, and perception.”

Tomas Zierhofer-Kin, artistic director

PERFORMANCES

Performances by Saint Genet and God’s Entertainment on both weekends!

The one-of-a-kind American collective SAINT GENET returns to donaufestival with the world premiere of “Frail Affinities”. Saint Genet’s works transcend psychic and physical borders, creating extraordinarily vivid images full of savage beauty. An expansive installation by Derrick Ryan Claude Mitchell, Ben Zamora, and Casey Curran sets the stage for the performance in the central hall of Kunsthalle Krems. “Stunning!” (daily newspaper Der Standard on “Paradisiacal Rites”, donaufestival 2013).

GOD’S ENTERTAINMENT unsettled and enthused their audience most recently with their Human Zoo in Krems in 2014. With “NIEMAND HAT EUCH EINGELADEN!” the Viennese superstars of the international performance scene once again scrutinise the roles of the performer and observer in an impressive theatrical collage and a traversable installation. In light of the ongoing refugee crisis, everyone is called upon to make a decision.

The Vienna-based choreographer and fine artist ELISABETH BAKAMBAMBA TAMBWE participates in this year’s festival (April 29 – May 1) with an installation, performance, and video work.

From April 25 to May 7 the three inspectors JULIUS DEUTSCHBAUER, DAVID JAGERHOFER, and BARBARA UNGEPFLEGT assume their posts at Kunstinspektion DONAU in Stadtcafé Ulrich and call for the population of Krems to report grievances and suspicions of all forms.

ROBERTA LIMA presents an installation about body politics in connection with migrant bodies (April 29 – May 7). On May 7 STATION ROSE, the Austrian pioneers of digital culture, will transform the Klangraum Krems Minorite Church into a multimedia chamber of wonders and perform recent audio-visual compositions, which have been created exclusively for donaufestival. And as the conclusion of the festival on May 7 the magnificent artist group GELATIN fuses together with KlitClique and Elikuka in a session of anarcho-karaoke.

Furthermore, the Berlin performance collective MONSTERTRUCK and THEATER THIKWA visit the festival with their moving production “Dschingis Khan” (May 5–7), confronting us with a radical re-evaluation of normal and abnormal: People with Down’s syndrome – once referred to as “mongoloids” because of their appearance – present us the everyday of the Mongols (with video material!).
